May all sentient beings be happy and free from suffering.

Trauma-informed Therapy

The unthinkable happened…

And a part of you has been frozen in time ever since.

Whether it happened last week, last year, or 20 years ago, the world hasn’t felt like a safe place since.

And no matter how hard you’ve tried to put it behind you and get on with your life, there’s something inside that won’t let it go.

You might not even remember exactly what happened, but your body hasn’t forgotten. And that inner wisdom understands that the fear, anxiety, dread, and self-medicating with drugs, food, or alcohol are all clues that you are trying to cope with something you have yet to face.

What exactly is trauma?

Trauma is something that happens that overwhelms your mind, brain, and body to the point that your nervous system either shuts down or sends you into a chronic state of hypervigilance.

20traumaTrauma can be a one-time event, like a car accident, house fire, or getting attacked by a stranger.

Trauma can also be a series of incidents that add up over time, like systematic racial or sexual discrimination, emotional or psychological manipulation, or growing up in poverty or violence.

Trauma can also be collective, like a mass shooting, natural disaster, or living through a pandemic.

Childhood trauma can be very difficult to identify and resolve as an adult. We often develop unconscious, extreme ways of coping that can wreak havoc in our adult lives.

20thinkYou may think this is just the way it is…

The pain, fear, sadness, worry, intrusive thoughts, nightmares, relationship issues, unhealthy eating, chronic stress, or high blood pressure…

You may not even realize that the difficulties bringing you to therapy might be the signs and symptoms of unresolved trauma.

Or you may be all too aware of the trauma you experienced and are finally ready to face it so you can release it once and for all.

At Sentient Psychotherapy, we re-orient you back to the truth of who you are
and help you see and honor what you’ve been coping with all on your own.

You’re not alone in this… not anymore.

You’ve been doing your very best to manage, but you don’t have to do it alone. We’re right around the corner at the intersection of Tribecca, Soho, and FiDi, easily accessible by multiple subway lines or online from anywhere in New York State.

Resolving trauma is NOT about reliving it over and over, exposing yourself to disturbing memories.

In an atmosphere of safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment, we will work together to bring you back to equilibrium and wholeness.

You will learn to calm your intense emotions and create new thought patterns that help you better align your actions with your desires and goals.

trauma4 | Sentient PsychotherapyDon’t let trauma turn you against yourself.

Unfortunately, too many of us blame and punish ourselves for our traumatic experiences.

When we do that, we work against ourselves, making it harder to heal.

In therapy, you will learn that YOU MATTER.

Your experience matters…

Your life matters…

The only thing worse than experiencing trauma is being left alone to deal with it.

Let’s find a way out of this together. We’re here and ready to start today: (646) 586-3311.
