Sanam Sajnani 900x1200Working together…

You are welcomed into a warm, accepting, and safe space where you have my undivided attention as we explore the depths of your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, values, and behaviors.

I work well with professionals and college students managing symptoms of anxiety, depression, OCD, perfectionism, and relationship issues. Additionally, as a couples therapist, I help straight and LGBTQIA+ couples address communication and sexual issues, increase intimacy and respect, manage work, household and childcare challenges, and work through the pain of infidelity. I also provide maternal mental healthcare to women at any stage of their motherhood journey. When it doesn’t always go as easily or joyfully as we’re told it should, feelings of guilt or shame can overwhelm you. I’m here to help.

As a multicultural woman and native New Yorker, I truly appreciate other cultures and strive always to validate your unique experiences. I remain open as I offer empathy, support, and curiosity.

I help immigrants, children of immigrants, BIPOC, and third-culture adults who struggle with feelings of guilt and selfishness and who lack assertiveness. I understand what it’s like to have to balance two worlds.

My therapeutic approach is integrative, dynamic, and holistic. I incorporate techniques and skills from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples.

Using these therapeutic tools, you will develop the capacity to set boundaries, practice assertiveness, manage anxiety, reduce perfectionism, increase self-acceptance, develop a rich sense of identity, and improve your relationships with your family and yourself.

With a values-driven lense, you will find your own unique purpose; living authentically and peacefully in both worlds you inhabit.

Education and experience…

I hold a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling and Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, both from Baruch College, and I am trained from The Gottman Institute in Couples Therapy.

I have worked in various settings, including private practice, crisis intervention, schools, and non-profit organizations. I have engaged as an at-risk youth counselor for individuals ages 12-24 years old.

During the pandemic, I was a pod facilitator and counselor for the NYC COVID Care Network, providing support to individuals and families affected by COVID-19.

My areas of expertise include interpersonal relationships, conflict, anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief.

Therapy is not as scary as you may think.

I honor and understand that everyone walks their own special path.

I hope to play an integral role in helping you along the journey.
