Tianyi 900x1200 Working with Tianyi…

When something isn’t quite adding up, the life you’ve built doesn’t quite fit, or you’ve been carrying questions about yourself for a long time without anywhere to really sit with them, therapy is a great place to begin. I’d be glad to be curious with you.

In our work together, I’ll pay close attention to what unfolds between us because the patterns that show up in your relationships—your inner critic, the ways you go quiet or push too hard—tend to surface here, too. Insight, in my experience, doesn’t always fix things overnight. But it changes how you relate to yourself, and that tends to change everything else.

I work with individual adults and couples navigating anxiety, perfectionism, depression, relationship struggles, trauma, life transitions, and questions of identity and belonging. I’m particularly drawn to working with people who feel caught between worlds, whether that’s cultures, life chapters, or different versions of themselves.

As a Shanghai-born, U.S.-educated Asian woman who practices in both English and Mandarin Chinese, I bring my own experience of that in-between to the room. But my clients come from all walks of life, and what I care most about is that you feel genuinely seen, whatever your background.

Our work is collaborative. You bring the questions; I bring the curiosity.

Education and Experience…

I received my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University, and am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York State. My approach is integrative, because I believe no two people arrive at therapy the same way.

I draw from a range of evidence-based frameworks, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and I tailor how I work to fit you, not the other way around.

Prior to joining Sentient, I provided trauma-informed counseling to survivors of human trafficking at Garden of Hope, a nonprofit serving marginalized communities in New York City. This experience deepened my commitment to working with trauma, and to holding space for stories that are rarely easy to tell.

Therapy doesn’t have to start with a crisis.
