Joy Ripplinger MA (she/they)
LMHC Founder, Senior Therapist
“Fantastic, fantastic therapist. I’m the type of person who needs actual tools given to me and actions I can take to help my depression/anxiety, not just someone who sits there and lets you vent, and that’s actually what Joy [formerly Jody] does.”
Working together…
I am truly excited for you to move beyond the stuckness and discomfort you may be experiencing in your life today.
With support, acceptance, and practice, it’s absolutely possible to unburden from suffering and freely enjoy the life you’ve created for yourself. I’m here to guide you through the process.
From our first session onward, I provide a warm, professional, and safe space where you’ll learn to develop curiosity and compassion toward your emotional or psychological pain and the skills to make positive changes in your life.
We will work together to improve your psychological flexibility and address how your attitudes toward yourself and others may get in the way of taking your happiness and well-being to the next level.
Whether you’re experiencing symptoms of trauma, anxiety, depression, OCD, relationship issues, or career issues, I implement a nonjudgmental approach with open curiosity. I integrate behavioral interventions with mindfulness and compassion to help you interrupt habitual and often self-sabotaging tendencies.
I enjoy working with executives, supervisors, managers, and team leaders who benefit from developing the relational skills and psychoeducation necessary to handle stressful careers, engage with many different types of personalities, and enrich their work environments.
As a gender queer person, I also specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples.
Ketamine-assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)
Feeling stuck in life and therapy is an awful experience. Looping around and around within the same unhelpful thought patterns and self-destructive behaviors is exhausting and yet an unfortunate reality for so many.
Treatment-resistant depression, chronic PTSD, and complex grief are all serious, life-diminishing diagnoses that can be helped with KAP. If you are in your own therapy and want to incorporate short-term KAP treatment to help you out of your rut, please reach out.
I am a Fluence-certified KAP Therapist with over 14 years of personal experience working with altered states of consciousness and plant medicines. I have completed the MDMA-Assisted Therapy Education Training, as well as Psychedelic-assisted Therapy and Integration trainings with Fluence, the premier continuing education organization in the emerging field of psychedelic therapy.
Using a harm-reduction framework, I also provide psychedelic preparation and integration therapy for folks who may be exploring the personal use of psychedelics as a healing or spiritual modality.
Education and experience…
After a successful career as a musical theater choreographer and Broadway dancer, I redirected my commitment, passion, and creativity from the performing arts to the healing arts.
I hold advanced degrees in Mental Health Counseling, Human Development, and Gender Studies. I am trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Somatic Experiencing (SE), Psychedelic Integration Therapy (PIT), Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), and Interpersonal Neuropsychology.
I am certified in LGBTQ Clinical Foundations from the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy and IHI Therapy Center and received trainings on Adult Attachment in Psychotherapy with David Wallin, Ph.D., and sexuality and couples’ clinical issues at the Ackerman Institute. My work is informed by feminist and socio-ecological models of health.
Outside the office, I’ve taught mental health counseling graduate students as an adjunct professor at Brooklyn College, as well as supervise and mentor post-graduate therapists in training. I’m a member of the American Counseling Association, the Psychedelic Medicine Association, and the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science.
